Last year in my new house I sent cards to everyone I know; this year not, with the unforeseen pleasure that I was able to spend New Year’s morning responding to the cards and gifts that had come to me. What a most remarkable group of friends I have! Some messages have gone by modern e-mail, others by good old snail mail, all with my most fervent thanks for friendship and good wishes for happiness in the coming year. Particularly the old fashioned hand written cards and the small tokens still left to dispatch left me in a haze of nostalgia and good will. I think this New Year’s Day card writing practice could make a good tradition.
The weather has been gray and uncompromising all day, but sun is breaking through. It’s only 3:30, so I think I will attempt a walk before this first day of 2005 sinks back into winter gloom and darkness. Carpe diem, y’all.

Could you post some pictures of the puppies? I'm needing a puppy fix . . .. if not, no problem. Happy New Year! ~bluepoppy
