I’m Learning

The whole world of blogging is still very new to me, but among my favorites are Beginner’s Mind http://beginnermind.blogspot.com/ , Hoarded Ordinaries http://www.hoardedordinaries.com/ , Ever So Humble http://everyday.blogs.com/humble/ and Fragments from Floyd http://www.fragmentsfromfloyd.com/ . I adore the Hungry Tiger http://www.stuttercut.org/hungry/ , Cooking for Engineers http://www.cookingforengineers.com/ and even Dirty Olive http://www.dirtyolive.net/ , which is about small, snotty children.

So my friend Robert at Beginner’s Mind proposes the following….

Happy Thanksgiving! Would you believe I just heard thunder? How odd!Anyway, this was taken from Zenchick, who took it from Kat:(A) First, recommend to me:
1. a movie
2. a book
3. a musical artist, song, or album(B) I want everyone who reads this to ask me three questions, no more, no less. Ask me anything you want.(C) Then I want you to go to your blog/journal, copy and paste this allowing your friends to ask you anything & say that you stole it from me.

Robert has, aside from really bad headaches, really good ideas. So please, would you kindly...

1. Recommend either a movie, a book or a musical artist/song/album? Alternatively, you may recommend a recipe. My recommendation in return will be the divine lime pickles with a quarter cup of cayenne.

2. Three questions. Ask me whatever you like.

Chain letter feel aside….wouldn’t you like to ask your friends some variant of these questions?
Not a blogger? Stick your toe in the water. It’s truly fine. Meet Robert, meet Loriane, meet Floyd, meet Michael. Kinda cool, huh?

1. Book - anything by Howard Frank Mosher (seeing as how you live in Vermont you've probably already read him, so then I would recommend *The Last Picture Show* trilogy by Larry McMurtry)

2.a What are your favorite and least favorite months in Vermont, and why?

2.b What do you find most satisfying about writing?

2.c If you could go anywhere, anytime, for one week, where and when would you go, and why?

3. I don't know, I'd probably have different questions for different people.

BTW, I think you gave the wrong link for Floyd :)

Best and worst months in Vermont. For worst, it's any month in which the temperature drops to thirty below more than once. I don't mind messy weather, but I can't take the very, very cold. Best would be July when the gardens are getting started, just before our two weeks of summer. Before second cut turns everybody to thinking about winter again.

The most fascinating thing about writing to me is that I find things in my brain that I didn't know were there. I start with a shred of an observation, and that tiny thread spins into an idea, a concept, a view, a story. How does that happen?

I've been some interesting places for work and for vacation--Mexico, Paris, Barcelona, Brazil, Alaska. I would go back to any of them in a heartbeat, but I'm not done with here. I consider myself a fortunate woman to be exactly where I want to be.

Thanks--I fixed Floyd's address.

Thanks for another David Mamet recommendation. One of my best memories of New York City was going to hear Mamet and Horton Foote talk about the difference between writing for stage and writing for screen. Vivid, sharp differences.

Will try out your other recommendations on the basis of that one!

Most grateful: Choosing is hard for me because I am grateful for many things. I am grateful that I am in good health and most especially that my brain--where I live--still works. I am also very grateful for my home, a well loved refuge, and my dogs' uncomplicated love.

Tostones: Okay, you made me look it up. And no, I haven't, but it sounds like a really good idea.

Simple joy: Finding that I have one reader I have never met!
